A Complete Success – the Second Business Park Vienna Stair Climbing Race
The athletes competing in the second Business Park Vienna stair climbing race pushed themselves to their very limits on Friday, 21 October 2011. They each had to climb 35 storeys in the Vienna Twin Tower. The fastest of them all was the extreme athlete Piotr Lobodzinski from Poland, who cleared the 680 steps in 3 minutes and 7 seconds.
Only the fit and motivated reached the finish line on the 35th floor of the Vienna Twin Tower on Friday, 21 October. Regardless of whether they competed in the Iron , Classic or Relay Challenge, all climbers were pushed to the limits of their endurance. The lift in Vienna Twin Tower needs 27 seconds to travel 35 storeys. The best athlete, Piotr Lobodzinski from Poland, needed 3 minutes and 7 seconds to conquer the Twin Tower at Business Park Vienna, and set a new record in the Iron category. He came in ahead of Gernot Kerschbaumer and David Schneider. In the Classic category, Markus Zahlbruckner repeated his victory from last year by being the fastest to the top. He cleared the 23 storeys in 2 minutes and seven seconds, beating Gabriel Strommer (2:08) and David Wagner (2:19). The fastest woman in this year’s race was Carola Bendl, who crossed the finish line after 3 minutes and 20 seconds. A total of 163 Austrian and international athletes competed in the Iron Challenge, 51 in the Classic Challenge and 30 in the Relay Challenge. The oldest competitor was 64 years old, and the youngest 6.
Radio Arabella broadcast live from Business Park Vienna
The second Business Park Vienna stair climbing race was a complete success according to the organisers. A kick-off event with two fashion shows, a break dancing performance and a prize drawing was held on the day before the competition. Radio Arabella broadcast live from Business Park Vienna. Star guests included Austria’s Next Top Model Aylin. Fans and viewers were able to watch all runners on a large video screen for the first time this year. Another highlight was the live images sent by the body cameras worn by selected competitors.
